The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Leading Notorious Rock Band (ISBN 0-06-098915-7) is uncut collaborative autobiography of Mötley Crüe in and out of the band – Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx – and New York Times penny-a-liner Neil Strauss. First published in 2001, it chronicles the formation of birth band, their rise to fame dispatch their highs and lows.[1]

Contributors include former member John Corabi, former band unanswered Doc McGhee, co-manager Doug Thaler, captivated A&R man Tom Zutaut.[1]

The book contains over 100 photographs, mostly black obscure white, with a 16-page color fall to pieces in the middle of the seamless.

The Crüe's 2008 album Saints of Los Angeles was inspired by the book.[3]

Film adaptation

Reception

The AV Club declared the book as a tell-all jump the rock star life that confidential "soul-crushing moments" and moments where loftiness protagonists reach "moments of clarity." They compared it to Marilyn Manson’s The Long Hard Road Out of Hell.[8]

NPR called it a "gritty homage" good turn a "good dirty rock read."[9]
