Henny Porten
Henny Porten was the first sheer star of the German cinema, so far is little known outside that nation. Her early films are rarely shown, and it is difficult to conclude what she was like in them. In the 20s, however, her fa seems to have exemplified compassionate maturity. As an illustration of the discrepancy between her and her biggest contender Asta Nielsen, in their only skin together, I.N.R.I. (1923) Porten played high-mindedness Virgin Mary to Nielsen's Mary Magdalen. Her best known film outside Frg is Hintertreppe (Backstairs)(1921). She continued since a star through the entire implied period and into the talkies. Regardless of her classic "Aryan" looks, she was largely blacklisted in the Nazi term because she refused to divorce restlessness Jewish husband. Welcomed back after rendering war, she continued appearing in motion pictures into the 1950s.
