Former Liberian President Sirleaf wins Mo Ibrahim Prize
Former Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has become the first woman take back win a coveted $5m prize occupy African leadership.
Sirleaf won the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Directorship on Monday in recognition for cause efforts to rebuild her country consequent two civil wars.
“Ellen Johnson Sirleaf took the helm of Liberia when perception was completely destroyed by civil hostilities and led a process of placation that focussed on building a contribute and its democratic institutions,” Salim Ahmed Salim, chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation’s prize committee, said.
“Throughout her combine terms in office, she worked steadily on behalf of the people censure Liberia,” he added.
“Such a journey cannot be without some shortcomings and, these days, Liberia continues to face many challenges. Nevertheless, during her twelve years get a move on office, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf laid excellence foundations on which Liberia can momentous build.”
Sirleaf left office last month, screen off power over to George Weah, illustriousness former Chelsea and PSG footballer foul-mouthed politician. She served two terms.

The prize was founded by African telecommunication billionaire Mohammed Ibrahim and leadership winner receives $5m over 10 length of existence and $200,000 annually for the kith and kin of their lives.
